Fishing is a game mechanic in Immortal Life.

It is a feature that allows the player to capture fish from specific Fishing Spots.

When equipped with a fishing rod, the player can approach designated Fishing Spots and cast a line into the water.

Patrolling

It is possible to ask Chen Yuanzhou to patrol fishing grounds after completing S Exploration Request.

Every fishing spot has a designated patrol duration. These durations can be seen on the selection screen before the player confirms where they want the NPC to patrol, so there is no guess work how long it will take. After the payer has asked Chen Yuanzhou to patrol one of the available areas, a timer (aligned with the in-game clock) will start counting down. Upon its completion, the player will get a notification in the top-right of their screen that the quest has completed. The player will then need to speak to Chen Yuanzhou, ask him to patrol, and then they can claim the gathered resources by clicking the 'Claim' button at the bottom of the screen. The player can, at any time Chen Yuanzhou is available, check the time remaining by speaking to Chen Yuanzhou and asking him to patrol. The time remaining, as well as the option to cancel their current patrol, will be available at the bottom of the screen. Their current patrol can be cancelled at any time, at no penalty except for time invested being lost. The player can immediately set the NPC to a new patrol at no cost.

Chen Yuanzhou can only gather fish that are in season. The Tortoise Minister is the only S rarity listed fish but other S rarity fish, like the Lucky Fish, can still be gathered by Chen Yuanzhou, even if the location does not have them. For example, the Salt Strewn Coast Mystic Realm Fishing Spot does not list the Gold Lucky Fish, but Chen Yuanzhou does have a chance to give the player this fish after completing his patrol of that area.

For any NPC to patrol a mystic realm, the player first needs to defeat the realm boss at least once.

Legendary Fish Minigame

It is possible to catch legendary fish only with a Fishing Rod (Superior).

Similarly to regular fish, after casting the fishing line into the water, a fish will either approach and test the bait a few times or immediately take the hook. When the swimmer goes down completely the player can press the control button to reel in the fish. However, with legendary fish, rather than reeling it in automatically, they will put up a struggle, and it is necessary to complete a minigame to successfully catch the fish.

For a brief moment the fish's movements will be displayed, to complete the minigame it is necessary to copy the exact movements with the directional keys for a few times.

When a legendary fish appears a notification will warn the player of its presence.
